The River Cities
Thunder Volleyball Club was formed to give girls
in the Tri-State area (KY, OH, & WV) an
opportunity to further enhance their skills in
volleyball and to have the opportunity to test
those skills against other girls in a
structured, competitive environment. It is our
goal to provide opportunities for these girls to
compete against teams from other areas at the

TRAINING DIRECTOR:
Mitch Jacobs
Head Volleyball Coach at Marshall
University
COACHES:
Mitch Jacobs
Head Volleyball Coach at Marshall
University
with Patrick Nicholas, and Ellen Hayes.
Marshall University Players - The entire
team gets involves and will be a
mainstay at almost all practices for
both travel and league team.
Parent coaches have been training
for the past two seasons and are ready
to step into larger roles. They
will be very instrumental during the
early training periods while Marshall is
still hiring as well as Coaching the
team at a couple single day tournaments.
Throughout the season, the Marshall
Coaching staff has responsibilities in
recruiting that must take them out of
town. During the few times that
this will conflict with a tournament the
Parent Coach will run the team.
FUTURE PARENT COACHES: We
would love to have more volunteers to
begin training as coaches. You
would be able to serve as assistant
coaches for your daughter's travel or
League teams.

Our club started the 2002-2003 season with a
total of 22 girls on 2 teams, we grew to 4
teams with a total of 42 girls for the
2003-2004 season. Our 16 yr old Drillers
team finished 13th in the Ohio Valley
Region, the largest region in the country.
We also fielded another 16 yr old team as
well as a 14 yr old and 17 yr old teams.
For the 2004-2005 season, we grew to 78
girls in five teams in age categories from
14-Under to 17-Under. Our 17-Under
Thunder team finished 3rd in the Ohio Valley

out of 128 competing teams. However,
they ranked number 1 in overall tournament
play!
Some of our area high school teams are
reaping the benefits of their kids playing
club volleyball; 2005:
-
Spring Valley High School, Lady
Timberwolves, Final Four in WVRSN
State competition.
-
Russell High School, Lady Red
Devils, Elite Eight in KHSAA State

Some of our past players have gone on
the play in college. Some as
walk-ons and some with scholarships in
